No jobs for New Grad nurses 2009!

Good Morning As a constitute of your electorate and voter in the past election I would like to express concerns regarding issues in the health sector.I am a 3rd year student nurse with degree in hand awaiting to sit NCNZ state final exams next tues, along with awaiting the outcome of a job interview with MCH on thurs, to enter the nurse entry to training programme(NETP).Currently with the restructing and budget blowout at MCH, care assistants and nurses hours are being trimmed to save $700,000. When voting for National, one of the promises made were that more frontline jobs would be made available with top heavy, overpaid management positions being axed? After spending 17wks on placement in different areas for MCH this year, having seen first hand what happens \"on the floor\" I find this unbelievable.)
Not to mention as a student the extra hours of assistance/help within the DHB for $0.00. Students are a commodity to DHB\'s, what other degrees study, work fulltime (the hours of our nurse perceptors) and recieve no benefit at all. Patient\'s and their famillies are horrified when they realise that as students we do not get paid, and yes we do it for the love, and the prospect of a job at the end
MoessAfter 3years and told we are a commodity with now maybe no prospect of a job (I as others are not in a position to leave the area, whereas up to half my class have positons across all DHB\'s and overseas and some are leaving not by choice but because of a lack of positons) is demoralising.
The Government funded learning institutions continue to \"pump\" out nurses, overseas (albeit experienced) nurses continue to enter New Zealand, yet New Zealand trained new graduate Registered Nurses are fighting for positons? Should we not be looking after, encouraging and fostering the new grads. The question is always asked why do new graduates head overseas?

STOP GANG LOITERING

As concerned community residents of the Uptown neighborhood, we have noticed an uptick in gang-related loitering outside the Top Choice Grocery at the corner of Wilson and Magnolia, despite \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"No Loitering - We Call Police\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\" signs outside of the premises. Many of us are scared to shop at the Top Choice Grocery because of this loitering. Until the loitering ends, we will continue being too intimidated to shop at your store. Please support the community, and call 911 when gang members loiter outside your store.

Upon reaching the petition goal, we will print out this petition and deliver to the owners of Top Choice Grocery.

Residents&Animals of Hoboken/Union City

The existing arrangements for animal control and protection services are inadequate and insufficient in the cities of Hoboken and Union City. Deficient oversight has resulted in neglect, abuse and incompetence. The present predicament poses a danger to public health and safety, as well as diminishes the quality of life in these communities.
• Stray and surrendered animals are currently transported to an Essex County facility with little chance of rehabilitation or adoption;
• Residents are given minimal guidance in handling animal-control situations;
• Residents and their pets risk attacks, spread of disease and destruction of property posed by poor animal control;
• Illegal activities involving animals thrive in the absence of enforcement and education;
• Resources and focus are diverted from the police and other city agents from their core functions, as well as those of local businesses related to animal care.

It is proposed that Hoboken and Union City residents deserve quality animal-control services, access to a qualified facility and a comprehensive protocol that would provide efficient and humane solutions to these problems. The cities’ governments should aggressively pursue contracts with eligible providers that could do this.

Veterans for 9/11 Truth

Veterans for 9/11 Truth

Petition

Whereas, we as military veterans have vowed to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic; and

Whereas, we as veterans are keenly aware that our political leaders do sometimes, in the name of \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'national security\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\', send the men and women of our armed forces to fight for causes not really vital to the \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'national security;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\' and

Whereas, we as veterans are also aware that our leaders have occasionally orchestrated \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'false-flag\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\' attacks to create pretexts for going to war; and

Whereas, abundant evidence has come to light, some of it produced by our own members, suggesting that the 9/11 attacks may have been examples of such \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'false-flag\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\' attacks, orchestrated to provide pretexts for going to war; and

Whereas, this evidence indicates that these attacks, which have been used to nullify parts of the US Constitution, appear to have been arranged by domestic terrorist and possibly outside agents, and we veterans have vowed to protect the Constitution and the United States from all enemies foreign and domestic; and

Whereas, the official investigations, which stated that the attacks were carried out by Muslim terrorists, were all conducted by individuals employed by, or otherwise closely aligned with, the Bush-Cheney administration; and

Whereas, some of the 9/11 Commissioners admit their report was tainted by \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"government lying\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"; and direct quotes below,

Commission co-chair Lee Hamilton says \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"I don\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'t believe for a minute we got everything right\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\", that the Commission was set up to fail, that people should keep asking questions about 9/11, that the 9/11 debate should continue, and that the 9/11 Commission report was only \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"the first draft\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\" of history.

9/11 Commissioner Bob Kerrey said that \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"There are ample reasons to suspect that there may be some alternative to what we outlined in our version . . . We didn\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'t have access . . . .\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"

9/11 Commissioner Timothy Roemer said \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"We were extremely frustrated with the false statements we were getting\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"

Former 9/11 Commissioner Max Cleland resigned from the Commission, stating: \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"It is a national scandal\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"; \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"This investigation is now compromised\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\" ; and \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"One of these days we will have to get the full story because the 9-11 issue is so important to America. But this White House wants to cover it up\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\".

The Senior Counsel to the 9/11 Commission, who led the 9/11 staff\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s inquiry, said \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"I was shocked at how different the truth was from the way it was described .... The tapes told a radically different story from what had been told to us and the public for two years.... This is not spin. This is not true.\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"

Therefore, we, the undersigned members of Veterans for 9/11 Truth, call on President Obama and/or the US Congress to authorize a new, truly independent, investigation, complete with subpoena power, to discover and report to the American people what really happened.

We also petition the American people, and citizens in other countries, to take part in our \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"Operation Vigilant Truth,\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\" which calls for independent investigations into the events of 9/11 conducted by ordinary citizens.

By signing this petition you will become an honorary member of Veterans for 9/11 Truth.

Please, only veterans or active duty military sign this petition.

Declaration of ASNOM -02 August 1944

ASNOM became and remained the biggest event of Macedonian struggle for national freedom and sovereignty.
The most important decision at the First Session of ASNOM was the decision to proclaim ASNOM the supreme legislative and executive body representing the Macedonian people, and the pinnacle of state authority in Macedonia. It incorporated initial guidelines on constituting the Macedonian state, creating the \"constitutional, legal document, upon the basis of which the Macedonian federal state is to be established and built.\" The decision also provided for constituting the people\'s administration,” the government of the Macedonian state, the functions of which were, for the time being, to be performed by the Presidium of ASNOM\". Furthermore, in structuring executive authority, this document provided for the formation of \"a required number of departments for the various branches of state administration\" which were to perform the function of ministries until a government was established.
This initial constitution for Macedonia was further supplemented by ASNOM with a definition of essential and guaranteed civil rights. The Declaration on Citizens\' Rights stated that all citizens of Macedonia \"are equal before the law, irrespective of their nationality, sex, race and religion.\" The Declaration also guaranteed the rights of ethnic minorities \"to a free national life.\" The minorities are further mentioned in the ASNOM Manifesto, wherein the freedom and equality of all nationalities in Macedonia is proclaimed.\"

NO HST DALTON

The Liberal Government of Ontario is planning to do the following to the taxpayer\'s of Ontario as of July 2010:

1. Make a $500,000.00 house $40,000.00 dollars more expensive for you to buy. It will likely end up rolled back into your mortgage so you can now be in debt even longer.

2. Tons of things will end up being taxed at 13% instead of 5% GST only such as legal fees etc. and innumerable other goods and services.

Bottom line is this government is trying to reach into your wallets in an unprecedented way here. Look at what is happening in the US. Their housing market was the catalyst for a major catastrophe. Canada\'s housing market has been one of the bright spots in this tough economy. It is almost like Dalton is going out of his way to try and damage the economy with this thing.

Fundamentally though, we all pay enough taxes and this has to stop. Dalton should try managing the funds he already has before he comes looking for more money he can throw away like his people have done with E-Health. We spent something akin to a billion dollars on to get Ontario\'s health records computerized and nothing significant has happened other than wasted taxpayer money.

Enough is enough. Sign this petition and send Dalton a message. Tell him that he can find another job other than in politics if he follows through with this HST.

Signed

Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind has issued a fatwa that they will not participate in singing the national song Vande Mataram because it insults the Islamic religion. they have urged Indian Muslims not sing it and protest to be removed from the position of a national song. This is an unwarranted attack on India from Indians who seek to rew-write or re-do the culture or traditions as they damn well please. This will not be tolerated from any religious group and will be opposed by EVERY patriotic Indian regardless of religion. We will not allow this organization to have its ways.
Stop the AT&T Cell Tower

PETITION TO THE GRESHAM CITY COUNCIL TO DISALLOW
THE AT&T CELL TOWER INSTALLATION AT 3494 S.W. BELLA VISTA AVE

We, the undersigned residents of the City of Gresham, Oregon attest that we are in opposition to the installation of the AT&T-Wireless cell antenna by Cascadia PM. Impacted residents in this neighborhood have additional land-lines and good cell phone reception with their carriers.

We were given less than two weeks notice of the Neighborhood Home owner’s association hearing. Also not everyone within 300 feet of this proposed installation received the notice as required by the city of Gresham. Installation of the cellular antenna is inconsistent with the character of this neighborhood. These homes are on 5000 square foot lots and a great deal of these homes will be impacted by this tower causing lower resale values as well as reducing the tax values of these homes to the city of Gresham.

We understand that the federal courts have already ruled repeatedly that a municipality has no obligation to allow intrusive cell tower installations anywhere within its borders when other providers cover the area without such intrusive installations. We believe AT&T Wireless and other cellular communications companies should be required to find more appropriate locations in nearby commercial and industrial zones or at the top of the hills of Gresham, away from residential neighborhoods and that all alternative scenarios must be exhausted to make an appropriate selection.

If the City allows this tower and adjoining equipment compound and facility to be constructed in a Single Family Residential Zoned area, the precedent will be set in stone. Many more towers will be popping up. The city will no longer have any recourse once a precedent has been set. The cell tower at 190th and Powell is actually not right in a residential area like ours, but rather a light industrial area, and does not actually set a precedent.

We call upon the Gresham City Council to defend our City’s zoning plan (Per the code this tower is out of
Compliance in two major ways, first it’s closer than the required 200 feet from homes, and second it’s building
Will be over an active storm drain system,) we ask that council enforce noise and design review ordinances,
Determine if a legitimate need for a cell tower exists in this residential neighborhood. Perform its duty to
Preserve the residential, neighborhoods and the property values of our homes by DENYING the installation
of the AT&T cell tower on S.W, Bella Vista Ave.

Uphold St. James Preservation Agreement Landmark

We are asking the Cambridge Historical Commission Historical Society for a formal landmarking process to protect the entire property currently at risk. We ask that no certificate of appropriateness be issued until the design conforms to the intent of the restrictions set forth in the memo of understanding.

We are asking Massachusetts Historical Commission to uphold the limitations in the Preservations Easement Agreement and consider suggesting alterations to the design that maintain the prominence of the historical building on its site, protect and enhance the green space on the site, complement and preserve the views along Mass Ave and Beech.

BACKGROUND:
In 1987, the Massachusetts Historical Commission and the St. James church signed a Preservation Restriction Agreement that affects what it--or any future owner of the property--can do on the site. In 2004, the city of Cambridge completed a landmark study but declined to grant landmark status because the protections that the state offered were deemed sufficient at the time.

In 2005, in lieu of landmarking, St. James signed a binding memo of understanding with the CHC so as to get funds from both historical commissions for restoration of the bell tower in the church building.
As an example of key issues, the Cambridge Historic Commission and neighbors raise these concerns:

The proposed buildings dominate the church.

The development significanly encroaches on the Kinghts Garden destroying mature trees, plantings and quite green space.

The design is too close to the Mass Ave and Beech street sidewalks, thus affecting the vistas of the historical properties.

Views of the historic firehouse would be negatively affected by the large new building.

The character of Beech Street – a historic street, would be altered by the new proposal.

Kingdom Hall would be crowded by the new driveway, which also remove the historic stone and wrought iron fence on Beech.

Tell Gov Paterson NOT to Cut our Funding!

Governor Patterson recently announced the Deficit Reduction Proposal, which includes a 10% across the board cut in Local Assistance funding. Unfortunately, this funding cut would directly affect people who need services the most but frequently have the least capability to advocate for themselves- the developmentally disabled.

Nearly every agency which provides services for the developmentally disabled population relies on government funding – cutting this assistance by 10% would be literally devastating to agencies like mine, the PutnamARC. Both the staff and the participants from our organizations will suffer tremendous cut backs and a decline in their quality of services if this proposal passes. Here is a direct quote from the NY Governor’s website:

“Specific 2009-10 programmatic impacts as part of this $1.3 billion across-the-board local assistance reduction include the following: a $480 million state fiscal year cut to school districts ($686 million on a 2009-10 school-year basis); a $287 million cut to Medicaid; a $184 million cut to other health and mental hygiene programs; a $28 million cut to social service programs; a $67 million cut to Aid and Incentives to Municipalities; a $125 million cut to transportation programs; a $62 million cut to higher education programs; as well as other reductions.”

As you can clearly see, education, health and mental services are taking a bulk of these cuts! While we all understand that times are tough and there are serious financial difficulties in our state, there must be a better way to reduce the deficit than taking money out of the hands of those who need it the most.

Please help me spread the word and tell Governor Patterson and the rest of NY’s Government not to cut our funding!

Preserve Nebo Post Office

We, the undersigned citizens, respectfully object to the closing of Nebo Post Office. While we have yet to receive letters, we want to express our concerns about why we feel the Nebo Post Office should be preserved.

For many years, the Nebo Post Office has served the citizens of Nebo and the 42441 postal code area. During these same years, Nebo has been abandoned by businesses, banks, schools and factories. Despite these abandonment’s, two things have sustained over these years: the citizens and our post office.

We, the citizens, see the post office, as more than a building to exchange letters, it’s our sense of community, and sense of identity. When a community loses that, our future is filled with memories instead of dreams. Moreover, the Nebo Post Office provides us a place to see a neighbor or for postings about events, activities, and news about our local community.

Furthermore, we feel this will place an undue burden on our families and local business. The Nebo Post Office covers more area land than nearby Postal Codes, including Manitou. We feel this could force us to travel greater distances to another post office, costing families and local businesses more financial struggle during our current economic climate. While Nebo and United States Postal Service has maintained a healthy relationship over the years, this undue burden could force us to seek alternative sources that offer the same services as USPS, which will reduce revenue for the USPS.

We, the undersigned citizens, want to continue our relationship with the USPS by keeping our Nebo Post Office, and maintain our tradition in this community.

“Aki szereti a Sláger Rádiót, az tudassa velünk, és a kormánnyal!”

Igen, a kormánnyal, mert sajnos már a politika is belekeveredett a rádiófrekvenciák körüli balhéba.

Úgyhogy, ha szeretitek a Slágert, és ti sem tudjátok elképzelni a hétköznap reggeleket Bumeráng nélkül, írjátok alá!

Should Obama Visit Hiroshima and Nagasaki?

The mayors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki went to the American Embassy in Tokyo on Tuesday to formally invite President Obama to their cities when he visits Japan next month. No sitting American president has visited either city, which were devastated by American atomic bombs in World War II. The White House declined to comment on the invitation, but officials said a visit was unlikely. - New York Times, October 27, 2009

Should President Obama visit Hiroshima and Nagasaki, helping heal the divide created in WWII?

This is a chance of renewal. Send our President the message we are tired of the old image of America. Hope and change begin with us, our votes.

Lieberman Must Choose: Filibuster or Chairmanship

Senator Lieberman must choose: Either support the Democrats on procedural votes and retain his Chairmanship, or Filibuster against them and caucus with the Republicans in the obscurity of the Minority.

It\\\\\\\'s ridiculous for Harry Reid to allow Senator Lieberman to retain all the power and the perks of caucusing with the Democrats, with none of the responsibility to stick with the caucus on procedural votes. If he refuses to back the Democrats in this important and historic opportunity to meaningfully reform health care in the United States, then he has no business wielding the power his Chairmanship affords him. The American people gave this power to the Democrats by voting them into the majority. If Senator Lieberman insists on supporting the obstructionist agenda of the Republican party, Harry Reid owes it to the voters to strip him of his Chairmanship and let him sit on the sidelines while the Democrats do what they can to fulfill the promises they\\\\\\\'ve made to the American people without him.

Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) told reporters today that he would in fact filibuster any health care bill he doesn\\\\\\\'t agree with--and right now, he doesn\\\\\\\'t agree with the proposal making its way through the Senate:

\\\\\\\"I told Senator Reid that I\\\\\\\'m strongly inclined--i haven\\\\\\\'t totally decided, but I\\\\\\\'m strongly inclined--to vote to proceed to the health care debate, even though I don\\\\\\\'t support the bill that he\\\\\\\'s bringing together because it\\\\\\\'s important that we start the debate on health care reform because I want to vote for health care reform this year. But I also told him that if the bill remains what it is now, I will not be able to support a cloture motion before final passage. Therefore I will try to stop the passage of the bill.\\\\\\\" —Senator Lieberman

District Webmaster

Bloomfield Hills Schools is collecting signatures to protest the recent funding reductions to our District. Please sign the petition by clicking on the \"Sign this petition!\" button below.

By now you know that Governor Jennifer Granholm has used her line item authority to veto Section 20J of the School Aid Act, sent to her upon approval of both the House and Senate. Her action to cut Section 20J targets about 40 districts in a $52 million reduction of our foundation grants. (Section 20J provides money that has enabled these 40 districts to get the same annual funding increases that other districts get throughout the state.) For BHS, that amounts to about $119 per student, or over $600,000 per year. The rest of the School Aid Act already provides for $165 less per student, or nearly $900,000 per year. And, in her veto message, she anticipates an additional “proration” (reduction) of another $165 per student. All told, then, BHS would experience over $2.4 million in reductions this year alone. The one action for which she is solely responsible is her veto of Section 20J.

Let her know that targeting the highest achieving districts in the state is calculated to hurt our students, not help them. Let her know that targeting our highest achieving students will hurt our state’s economic recovery, not help it. Let her know that, if this is some cynical ploy to force revenue increases, using our schoolchildren as pawns is unacceptable. Let her know that you’re already paying an additional 7 mils of school taxes every year, in addition to the 6 mil statewide property tax that all Michigan residents pay, because you care so deeply about our students’ education. Let her know that your district has cut over $10 million in expenses in the last two years alone.

Once again, I ask that our community mobilize in opposition to an irresponsible action, the impact of which falls squarely on the shoulders of our children.

I must also report our absolute determination, as a school district, to preserve those instructional values you cherish most. We will continue to seek cost reductions, alternative revenue sources, and political solutions to ensure that the quality of education in BHS meets your expectations. And, while budget planning for the 2010-11 school year is in its earliest stages, rest assured that even these draconian reductions will not impact our students during the current school year.

Emily\'s List is a national special-interest group that pushes a pro-abortion agenda. In June, the group endorsed Alex Sink in the race for Florida\'s Governor.

When the most recent finance reports were disclosed, Alex Sink refused to identify the members of Emily\'s List donating to her and how much total money came from this pro-abortion group.

According to Sink\'s website, \"Floridians ought to have an open and transparent government. Alex Sink is committed to delivering that openness and transparency.\"

Alex, we agree. Openness and transparency is important. So, today we call on you to reveal who from Emily\'s List is giving you cash, and how much have they given. When one of the nation\'s powerful pro-abortion group is spending millions to elecet you our next governor, we think Floridians should know.

The City of Jacksonville was offered a newly designed website by IMGForge Web Design of Jacksonville. The offer was to give the site to the city for free (See proposed site below). The city\'s current website is unprofessional and outdated (See current site below).

Mayor Johnny Smith, without ever looking at the site declined the offer because he did not want to hurt the original designer\'s feelings.

When a new industry looks for a new location to develop, the first thing they do it look at that city\'s website. This is the first impression the anyone receives of our city.

Ethical leaders please step forward!!

If we had ethical leaders, truly ethical leaders - (those who are really interested in protecting regular citizens and not corporate interests, profits and excessive salaries), our middle class would be improving, would be protected and would continue to pass a better life to our children than we have.
We need regulation to control the mentality of excess. Many companies believe \\\"there is never too much money, no limit to what we do for that money and make money at all costs\\\" If left to the \\\"free market\\\" we see what corporations do, and that is financially rape regular folks.

Insurance needs to become not-for profit PERIOD!!! The very nature of insurance should mean that when you have an excess of premiums, it does not go into profits, but it goes into reserves. Then when there are higher claims because of a levy breaking, an epidemic or natural disaster we have the money to make people whole again. Insurance companies will not go into the red, forcing them to reject claims or raise premiums, because excess reserves will be available instead of depleting the excess money by giving it to executive salaries, bonuses and excess....
Elect leaders who will be ETHICAL!! We need this for the future of our kids!

Republicans for Protecting Corporate Interests

KBR contractors drugged and gang-raped a co-worker, Jamie Leigh Jones, in Iraq, anally and vaginally, suffering genital mutilation. She woke up bleeding from both orifices. After she was examined by a doctor, the evidence was handed back to KBR, where the rape-kit, photos, and notes disappeared. She was then locked in a shipping container, where eventually a guard gave her a cell phone to call for help. Agents were called at the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, where they took Jamie out of KBR custody. The rape-kit was later recovered, but the photos and notes were gone, essentially letting the rapists go free.

No rapes were ever heard of at KBR because they use mandatory arbitration for rapes and assault, which include a non-disclosure agreements. Rapists are never brought to justice at this federal contractor because the corporation actively covers up rape, \"protects their employees and the work environment,\" and makes evidence disappear to keep a good image.

30 Republicans voted against an anti-rape amendment for federal military & civilian contractors. Any government contractor who uses mandatory arbitration for rape and sexual assaults will not receive any more federal funding. In other words, any contractor who covers up rape and sexual assault by using a behind-the-doors non-disclosure agreement with the victim will not receive any more of your tax dollars.

Republicans enjoy military contractors(like KBR) that keep their rapes from being public knowledge. If a person was raped at KBR or another contractor, and accepted arbitration, the rape victim can then be sued for telling people she was raped at said company, therefore breaking the non-disclosure agreement that comes with arbitration. Arbitration protects rapists and the companies that employ them, and Republicans are simply looking out for the free market\'s best interests.

By signing this petition you agree to the following statement:

\"I agree that the Republican Party is a pro-rape organization, and that pro-rape advocacy should be included in the party platform.\"

The list of republicans who voted pro-rape and pro-covering it up are as follows:

Lamar Alexander (R-TN)
John Barrasso (R-WY)
Kit Bond (R-MO)

Revoke Special Use Permit for Plainview Cell Tower

Decision #06-416
Date of Decision: 1/10/2008
Building App. #1612

Dear Members of the Town of Oyster Bay Zoning Board of Appeals and Members of the Town Board:

As residents of the Town of Oyster Bay we are respectfully submitting this petition in strong opposition to Omnipoint’s Special Use Permit to erect an 80 ft light pole inside of which public utility wireless telecommunication antennas will be mounted on the south end of 52 Manetto Hill Mall, a.k.a. the Fairway Shopping Center, in Plainview, NY 11803. This tower is completely inconsistent with the residential nature of the area around the mall, and will create a hardship on the surrounding community. In this instance or any other similar situation, non-residential areas should be the only allowable location for any cell tower or cell phone antennas.

Numerous public safety groups have found that EMFs (electromagnetic fields) may cause a number of health problems including certain cancers. While these studies are not conclusive and are ongoing, New York State has adopted a prudent avoidance policy, indicating that people exercise caution and avoid exposure to these fields whenever possible. We do realize that according to the Telecommunications Act towers cannot be totally banned; however all alternative scenarios must be exhausted to make an appropriate selection.

In the case of this cell phone tower, the applicant failed to exercise their due diligence, and therefore the Special Use Permit should be revoked.

We thank you for your consideration of the aforementioned.

End America\'s Use of Mercenaries

America\'s use of private military contractors in the prosecution of the War on Terrorism has been a national disgrace. The scandals continue without end, from rape, the terrorizing and murder of civilians, wreaking wanton destruction, to underage prostitution and illegal transfer of weapons. It has damaged the reputation, image and credibility of the United States and made winning hearts and minds more difficult in the process.

\"Private contractors are not obligated to take orders or to follow military codes of conduct. Their legal obligation is solely to an employment contract, not to their country.\" -Leslie Wayne. The New York Times. October 13, 2002.

Rather than trying to legislate every possible scenario of abuse, close every loophole, and prosecute egregious profiteering and violations of law, we could simply put a stop to the entire practice of the private military complex.

If this petition gains enough signatures, it will be forwarded to:

Claire McCaskill (D-MO) [Chair] Senate Ad Hoc Subcommittee on Contracting Oversight,
Jim Cooper (D-TN) [Chairman] House Panel on Defense Acquisition,
Ben Nelson (D-NE) [Chair] Senate Subcommittee on Personnel, Barbara Boxer (D-CA) [Chairwoman] Senate Select Committee on Ethics,
Diane Watson (D-CA) [Chair] House Subcommittee on Government Management, Organization, and Procurement,
Edolphus (Ed) Towns (D-NY) [Chairman] House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform,

And
Senator Jim Webb (D-VA),
Gerald E. (Gerry) Connolly (D-VA),
President Barack Obama

Please join me in putting a stop to this national nightmare.

Sincerely,
Kristopher
