Students Against the Proposed Curriculum
of Kathy Cox

For all the students who, in their preparation for college, find that Kathy Cox's plan for the new curriculum would be detrimental to our knowlege and to our future. For all the students who believe that evolution and the American Civil War are an essential part of a student's curriculum. For all the students who wish their voice to be heard so as to have a say in the future of their education.

make our textbooks accurate

African-American leaders such as Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King Jr. must be accuratly represented in our textbooks. Not giving them the full credit they deserve, such as when Rosa Parks is described as a tired seamstress, discredits the entire civil rights movement and gives children weak role models. Reversely, when figures such as Martin Luther King Jr. are idolized it sends the message to children that they cannot be great leaders unless they are perfect. Figures such as these should be treated fairly in textbooks, not as weak figures, nor as all-power beings, but as the people they were who accomplished amazing things without becoming mythical beings

NEOUCOM Students at Youngstown State University (YSU) - until June 27, 2004, were misinformed of the requirements needed for promotion onto Phase II of B.S./M.D.

We, the undersigned, wish to indicate that during our term at Youngstown State University (YSU) - until June 27, 2004, were misinformed of the requirements needed for promotion onto Phase II of B.S./M.D. program at NEOUCOM. Students were not instructed that grades during the third year would be used as a separate prerequisite for matriculation into Phase II. Our liaison to NEOUCOM, B.S/M.D. advisor Jennifer L. Board, did not specify that the grades from the additional year would be of consequence as long as the overall requirements were met. During the numerous meetings in which we specifically discussed academic requirements for promotion with both our academic advisor and with the faculty at NEOUCOM, we were told that the only grounds for dismissal from the program for academic reasons are as follows: failing to earn eight on each section of the MCATs with an M on the writing portion, failing to maintain an overall GPA of 3.25 and an overall BCPM of 3.10 for the course of our study in the program, failing to earn at least a C- in all coursework completed, or failing to complete all required coursework prior to our application to NEOUCOM. Furthermore, these were the only requirements stated on the Phase I requirements guideline for the Voluntary Program Extension. Thus, upon enrollment, and throughout our studies at Youngstown State University, we were told and given the impression that if we met these stated requirements, we would not be dismissed for academic reasons.

As a result of these meetings, including Great Expectations, discussing our academic requirements and the Phase I requirements guideline, we believed that as long as our overall GPA for all three years was above a 3.25 and our overall BCPM for all three years was above a 3.1, all students who opted to take the Voluntary Program Extension met the GPA requirements necessary for advancement. It wasn’t until June 27, 2004 - well after the date for C3 students for the class of 2004 completed their course work at YSU, that any of us were informed by our advisor that these requirements were not the only basis for a dismissal recommendation from the program for academic reasons by the Phase 1 ARP committee. This is in spite of the fact that students spoke to our academic advisor multiple times throughout the year as well as just a few weeks prior, well after the final grades were published, discussing their promotion requirements. Yet these were never informed that there were any problems with their promotion. Thus, we have every reason to believe that even our academic advisor was never aware nor informed of this requirement until very recently. Now, we have become aware that certain people who opted to take a Voluntary Program Extension for their third year are being dismissed for requirements that were not stated in NEOUCOM’s official Phase I Requirements sheet for the Voluntary Program Extension.
Thus, students who did well their previous two years in the required foundation courses, and thus opted to take the most challenging elective science courses offered in order to better prepare themselves for medical school, as much of the course work their third year was elective, were hurt the most by having their third year requirements separated from the previous two years. Furthermore, the requirements sheet found on NEOUCOM’s official website was never updated to inform students of this additional requirement. We feel that this is unjustified as the Phase I Requirements guidelines were what we used to gauge how the AARP decisions would be made. They are the guidelines which aid us in deciding just how tough a course load we should attempt the third year. In addition, these were the only guidelines we were informed of when we first made our decision to enroll in the program, based partially on what would be expected of us academically.

SCHOOLS IN UK TO BE LIKE THOSE IN USA!

The education system in USA seems to be much more successful then ours here in UK.
More then 70% of 16 years old drop out of school. The Government has just propossed to buy teenagers to stay on at school.
 In America, school runs up until you are 18 and then you go either drop out or go to college. We should have the same system. You are classed as an adult at 18 here in UK, so are 16 year olds old enough to decide what they want to do with their lives and where they want to go? NO, I don't think so.
So this is a petition to have the same Education System here in the UK as they have in America.

Don't Terminate Education- Recall and Revise CA College Fee Increase

The following petition is to call upon California State Legislatures to ensure higher education remains attainable and affordable in California.

Don't Terminate Education!
The Facts on Schwarzenegger’s Destructive Budget Plan for 2004-2005:

1. $372 million in cuts for the University of California (UC) system and $239 million in cuts for the California State University (CSU) system.

2. California Community College fees increased from $18 to $26 per unit (Students who already have a BA/BS or higher pay $50 per unit).

3. Fees in both UC and CSU systems increased by 10% for undergraduates, 40% for graduate students and 20% for non-resident students.

4. Increased funds for financial aid to make up for higher fees will not be increased.

5. Reduced the number of freshmen enrolled in the UC and CSU systems by 10%.

6. Eliminated General Fund support for outreach activities which encourage enrollment in UC and CSU systems ($33.3 million for UC and $52 million for CSU)

Sign The Petition:
We, the undersigned residents of California, draw the attention of the Legislative Assembly to the following:

• Whereas post-secondary education has become a basic need for Californians and the future development of the United States;

• Whereas university and college tuition fees in California increased between 70 and 200 percent in just two years;

• Whereas tuition fees are a significant up-front barrier to post-secondary education;

• Whereas increasing tuition fees reduces access to post-secondary education; and

• Whereas, students pay more than the full cost of their education in higher taxes upon graduation;

Therefore, your petitioners call upon the Legislative Assembly of California to:

• Legislate tuition fees to be set at 2001-2002 levels;

• Increase post-secondary education funding;

• Increase significantly the number of fully funded spaces available to students at California’s public post-secondary institutions;

• Maintain and augment the needs-based, non-repayable grants program; and

• Call on the federal government to restore federal funding for post-secondary education and to negotiate a national agreement on standards of quality, accessibility and mobility for post-secondary education

We, the undersigned, do not agree with the imposed fee increases for students of University of California (UC), California State University (CSU) and California Community Colleges. We demand that California protect the Master Plan, which is the state's blueprint for providing high-quality and affordable higher education to all California residents. We call on our California legislatures and Governor to recall and revise the imposed budget plan for 2004-2005.

Allow Backpacks At Nesaquake Middle School

Whether students should be required to leave their backpacks in their lockers during the day has become a much-debated issue at Nesaquake Middle School.

For the most part, student involvement in policy-making is not the customary way of doing things, but in this instance we are seeking to give the student body some input.

This petition is a pro-active way of tackling the issue and a way of having the sentiment of the entire student body addressed.

A couple of students arranged for this petition expressing their objections to a policy on backpacks to make sure that they have more of a say against it and why.

``The more people who sign this, the more they'll realize this might not work,''

We are seeking a hearing now and want to have administrators, including the superintendent, meet with students.

``That way they would get a really good view of what students want,'' he said. ``We could lay it on the table and maybe compromise.''

One of our concerns is the time involved in getting books from the lockers. ``I don't want to have to walk to the other end of the school to get things,'' one student said.

Some students carry things in their backpack that may be stolen easily if left in the locker.

Female students have other concerns. ``We have private stuff in it. I have my lip gloss and other things,''.

Some students say they fear if the school gives them more time to go to their lockers before classes, they may shorten the lunch period.

Backpacks keep books together. ``It's easier to step over a backpack than maneuver over piles of books.''

Petition for Linda Anderson - Counseling D Track Year 1

We, the students of MA Counseling Track D1, hereby request that Linda Anderson be permitted to attend our Saturday Jungian Depth Psychology Class (CP-505), and to participate in the class insofar as it assures continuity and cohesion with the group (i.e., participating in group activities and presentations that enhance our knowledge and understanding of one-another, such as the Archetype Oral Presentation), while abstaining from work which would add workload (cost) to the instructor. We would also like to open discussions for Linda to be able do this with any other classes throughout our program.

Thank you for your consideration of our Petition.

Respectfully,

Niguel hills middle school needs a surf team. they spend more money on stuff at our school that isnt needed when they could be making a surf team. they have pushed, and ignored many people aside who wanted to create a team. well we live neer the coast and to think that spending money on new phones, tv's, plants,grass, and tables will be more helpful to the students than a surf team,, is messed up. NIGUEL ILLS MIDDLE SCHOOL NEEDS A SURF TEAM!

We Need a Third Year of Multimedia Design and Production

We, the undersigned, believe it would be of great interest for Fanshawe College to put a third year in place for the Multimedia Design and Production course.
Many students who have graduated the Multimedia Design and Production course in previous years have furthered their education in Post programs at other colleges. Many students about to graduate this year want to stay here at Fanshawe College to continue their education and specialize in a third year of the Multimedia Design and Production course.
There is a serious interest in Fanshawe College adding a third year to the Multimedia Design and Production course. The time to register for next year is fast approaching and we will have to go elsewhere to further our education in the multimedia field if Fanshawe College does not put a third year in place.

Please sign below if you support the idea of Fanshawe College adding an optional third year to the Multimedia Design and Production course.

Teach Classes Kids Are Actually Interested In

I sit through all of my classes bored, wishing that we could learn things we were actually interested in. I mean, when are we EVER going to need to divide 943,875,734 by 32,918? I would be better off learning Japanese considering I'm moving there in three years. Please listen to me when I say this: we should be able to pick our OWN classes. Thanks for your time.

Homework should be banned

Homework should be banned, I hate homework, work should stay at school. Homework should be optional, cause some people need to do homework to get good grades, and others don't, if you know the material you shouldn't have to do extra work!

More Slow dances For HJCS Students at Their Semi-Formail

On Friday, December 17, 2004, the intermediates of Holy Jubilee CS will be having a Semi-Formal-with only four slow dance songs. This is by far too few. Some people, who have already made lists of people they want to dance with, have five-to-six people on their list. Namely Marco, the writer of this petition.

Jay, a student of the school had this to say, "What is this!?"

As you can tell, the students need more slow dances, so this petition is designed to help bring justice to the students of Holy Jubilee CS
