No new tolls for drivers entering Manhattan

With the recent proposals made to reduce traffic in the business district in lower Manhattan, many residents view this as nothing more but a regressive tax. People will still have to drive to work from the other boroughs. New York City should not charge its residents any more new tollage into going through or to lower manhattan.

Dear United States of America, The year is 2008 and I have come to the sad realization that our government no longer represents the interests of the people. The economy is in the tank. Gas prices are at a record high - as well as oil company profits. Housing market is down. Everywhere I hear politicians telling the nation, "my plan is the answer". But unfortunately in times like these I can't believe anything I hear. Every word out of every politician, reporter, and journalists mouth is tainted. Everyone has an agenda. How is one person supposed to tell the difference between a truth and a lie? Can we even make that distinction any more? Every day there is a new "study" telling me the exact opposite of what I was told yesterday. Which is right? Who funds these studies? Who do I believe? McCain or Obama? Fellow Americans, I can't in good conscience make vote for either of these candidates or any of the politicians running for re-election in a major party. As I said before, I don't have any belief in in their ability to serve the needs of the citizens of the United States. So I'm not going to vote. Join me.

Ever had a close call on Claydor Drive? Have you ever wondered how fast the cars are actually traveling? Me too, so when the city engineer offered to perform a traffic count I took him up on the offer. In one 24 hour period Claydor had 113 vehicles traveling between 35 and "75 mph plus". There were 17 traveling over 45 mph, and 2 traveling over 75 mph. Each year between 4800 and 6200 pedestrians are killed in the US by motor vehicles. In 2006 it was 5600, about average. Compare that to the number killed in motor vehicle collisions, usually under 20,000 a year. In 2006 there were about 18,500 (not inlcuding motorcyclists). Comparing the average miles driven per year (11,000 to 15,000) to the average miles walked per year in traffic, it\'s clear you are far more likely to be killed as a pedesrian than as a motor vehicle occupant. If you walk 300 miles a year, and drive 15,000, you are over 15 times more likely to die as a pedestrian. Also of note is the death rate versus the survival rate for pedestrians actually struck by a motor vehicle. If the motor vehicle is traveling 46 mph or more (17 per day on Claydor) the death rate is 36.1%, the incapacitating injury rate is 33.7% and healthy survivors make up only 30.2 percent. Compare that to the survival rate at Detroit Receiving Hospital (1980 to 1997) from stab wounds to the heart: 58%. I think I would rather walk the mean streets of Detroit than walk on Claydor Drive. With 6 million motor vehicle wrecks a year and a total of 35,000 to 40,000 non-pedestrian, non-motorcycle fatalities, the death rate is a very low 0.625 percent. The overall rate of pedestrians killed after being struck by cars at speeds from 1 mph and up is 6.5%, over 10 times higher than that of car occupants. Some peole may not know that there is war going on in Palestine. So let me fill you in the Isreali troups cam in 1954 to evacuate our homes. Lots of peole were living there and yet the british knew this and still promised land to the Jews. The Jews soon claimed palestine and called it Isreal. Now the kids in Palestine can't even get to school. It is so dangerous that when one person walks on the streets they could get killed. The whole country has a curfew. I am an ex-Marine and recently got out of the military. I truly believe that we made a mistake invading Iraq. Yes, we did a great thing by ousting Saddam, but the fact is that we've only shown that we are rather incompetant by our failing occupation of that country. We've lost more Americans since the fighting stopped. The Iraqis do not want us there, so let's just leave the savages to their own devices, or at least hand the reins over to the U.N. and bring out people home. Why should they, many of whom are my friends, sacrifice their lives any longer for a country that doesn't even want our help? Admit you made a mistake Mr. Bush and bring our people home. And for those of you who may be thinking that I'm saying we should abandon the country to a Taliban/Al Queda rule, you need to read the above paragraph again. Basically, what I'm trying to say is that these people do not want us there and will continue to kill more and more Americans just to prove their point. I think it would just be better to hands the reins of the rebuilding to the U.N. I'm sure that the needless killings will not cease. Look, we went into this thing with the right intentions, but the plan was not properly thought out and now American soldiers, and, like I said, several of my friends, have paid the price for this administration's lack of foresight and stubborn attitude towards accepting help with their lives. If you don't like what I'm saying here, I apologize, but I won't change my opinion. And attacks against my opinion and intellect (and you know who you are) or that of any other person on this site are completely unwarranted and against the spirit of the site.

Bush and his administrations reasons for war. Iraq posed an immediate threat to our Country possible connection between Al Qaeda and the now dissipated government of Iraq. Nope He lied about the threat of Iraq, he lied about the cost, and he lied about the expected outcome. He has violated the US Constitution and international law by attacking Iraq when it was not a threat to anyone. Iraq posed no danger to the U.S. or any of its allies. As of April 2004, no weapons of mass destruction had been found in Iraq. And U.S. military occupying Iraq has not found any terrorists, weapons for terrorists, money for terrorists, Iraq's threatening fleet of unmanned drones about which we heard so much morphed into one prototype made of plywood and string. Their missiles proved to be outdated and of limited range. Their army was quickly overwhelmed by our technology and our well trained troops. They had No chance Now Our troops Did Capture Saddam Hussein a brutal dictator that showed disregard for basic human rights Who Tormented His People for years. That's it For the love of god they found the Bastard Hiding in the Ground! Now We went all the way over there for what ? Loss of life U.S. officials declared an end to major combat operations on May 1, 2003 During major combat a total of 171 coalition soldiers�138 Americans and 33 Britons�died during the major Combat, Seens then its gotten worse 700 + coalition soldiers, mostly Americans, have died and that was after major combat Ended, 2,000+ U.S. soldiers wounded in action Not Dimension the fact that thousands of Innocent civilian Iraqis were killed. who do we have to blame for all that ? The Bush administration. I Really Don't see how people can Defend all that, oh Honest Mistake NO they had No valid reason for starting this war. During a speech at Western Michigan University advocating tax cuts, Bush promised that his plan would not lead to deficits. "Tax relief is central to my plan to encourage economic growth, and we can proceed with tax relief without fear of budget deficits, even if the economy softens," Bush promised. [Bush Remarks at Western Michigan University, 3/27/01(emphasis added)] Broken Bush Budget Posted First Deficit Since 1997, Predicted Deficits Until 2005. In February 2002, Bush released his budget for fiscal year 2003, which included the first federal deficit since 1997. Bush's proposed budget would result in a $106 billion in deficit in FY 2002 and $80 billion in FY 2003. According to Bush administration estimates, the budget will not return to balance until FY 2005. Worse, an analysis of the Bush budget by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) predicted the deficits between FY 2002 and 2005 would be $62 billion larger than White House figures. And so the budget I set up says that payroll taxes are only going to be spent on one thing, and that's Social Security. But the Congress won't be using the payroll taxes for other programs. A House Budget Committee Democratic staff analysis of the Bush budget proposal found that over the next ten years $1.6 trillion of the Social Security Trust Fund is spent on other government operations. CBO found that without assuming any new spending � such as homeland security and prescription drug coverage for Medicare � the Social Security Trust Fund would be raided every year through FY 2009. After including Bush's spending proposals, CBO predicted a trust fund raid every year through 2012 and an on-budget deficit of $1.8 trillion. CBO also said the Bush administration would raid the Trust Fund again in FY 2003 and 2004. USA Today reported, "The White House is backing away from its pledge to protect every cent of Social Security reserves in the face of a report today that the government is tapping Social Security taxes for other programs." [Associated Press, 4/7/02; CBO, The Budget and Economic Outlook: An Update, August 2001; USA Today, 8/28/01] Democrats Democratic Plan Stops the Bush Raid on Social Security. The Senate Democratic budget resolution implements a trigger that would stop the Bush raid on Social Security by FY 2008. According to the Senate budget resolution, "if the Congressional Budget Office determines next January that the outlook has not improved and the Social Security trust funds are still in danger of being used for other than their intended purposes over the next decade, the Budget Committee will be required to report a budget plan that will return the budget to balance without Social Security within five years." [Senate Budget Committee, Text of the Report on Committee Passed Resolution, 3/20/02] New York Times Editorial: Democrats Want "Funds Generated By Social Security And Medicare Taxes To Be Set Aside And Used To Pay Down Debt." According to a New York Times editorial, "The chairman of the Senate Budget Committee, Kent Conrad of North Dakota, is offering a different approach, which has attracted the interest of some Republicans. He wants funds generated by Social Security and Medicare taxes to be set aside and used to pay down debt. Mr. Conrad proposes a "trigger" in the budget, requiring Congress to adopt a five-year plan to wean the government off raiding the Social Security and Medicare trust funds for its regular expenses. The "trigger" may be a gimmick, but if it works in forcing some lawmakers to be responsible, we would welcome it." [Editorial, New York Times, 3/14/02]________________________________________________ 3.Promise Bush Promised to Reduce the National Debt. In March 2001, Bush said, "And after we fund important priorities in the ongoing operations of our Government, I believe we ought to pay down national debt. And so my budget pays down a record $2 trillion in debt over the next 10 years." [Bush Remarks to the American College of Cardiology, 3/21/01] Broken Bush Administration Asked for $750 Billion Permanent Increase in Debt Ceiling. In December 2001, the Bush administration announced that it would be forced to ask Congress to increase the $5.95 trillion federal debt ceiling in order to avoid a breach. The Bush administration asked Congress to raise the debt limit by $750 billion. The Washington Post headline read, "In Switch, Administration Seeks to Boost Debt Ceiling Now" [Associated Press, 3/12/02; Washington Post, 12/4/01] Bush Treasury Secretary Tapped Government Retirement Funds to Avoid Debt Limit Breach. Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill announced that he would temporarily tap funds from government retirement programs for federal employees to avoid defaulting on the national debt. "The Secretary has today notified in writing the Congress and the Executive Director of the Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board of his intention to suspend investments of securities in the Government Securities Investment Fund (G-Fund) beginning on April 4 and ending on or about April 18, 2002," the Treasury Department said. [Treasury Fact Sheet, 4/2/02; Washington Post, 4/3/02] Democrats Democrats' Plan Pays Down More of the National Debt than Bush. The Senate Democratic budget resolution, at a minimum, pays down $233 billion more of the national debt than the Bush plan. The resolution also creates a reserve fund for spending on national defense. "If the amounts in the defense reserve fund are not needed to meet unanticipated demands in the defense area, the plan would pay down $502 billion more in debt than the President's budget," the Senate Budget Committee said. The New York Times reported of the Senate budget resolution, "Under their approach, Democrats said, the government would devote more of the temporary Social Security surplus toward reducing the national debt in the next 10 years, leaving the nation in better financial shape to pay retirement benefits to the baby boom generation in coming decades." [New York Times, 3/20/02]_______________________________________________ 4.Promise Bush Pledged to "Spend More on Our Schools" As Part of Education Reform Law. At the bill signing ceremony for the bipartisan "No Child Left Behind" education law, Bush pledged to increase funding for education. "And so the new role of the Federal Government is to set high standards, provide resources, hold people accountable, and liberate school districts to meet the standards. ... We're going to spend more on our schools, and we're going to spend it more wisely," Bush said. [Remarks on Signing the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, 1/8/02] Broken Bush Budget Cut $90 Million From "No Child Left Behind" Education Reform Law. According to an analysis of the Bush education budget by the House Education and the Workforce Committee, "Just one month ago, Congress and the President enacted the most important education reform legislation in 30 years. This bipartisan law is based on the principle that, with adequate resources, real reform is possible. But rather than building on this progress, the President's budget cuts initiatives in The No Child Left Behind Act by a net total of $90 million." Just four weeks after the President signed the education bill into law, the Administration's budget cuts funding for it," Kennedy said. Why does the state of California do nothing about the thousands of cases of preventable heat stroke that occur every summer? Why are people dying in their own homes of heatstroke? Why, when it is a hundred degrees in my apartment, is there nothing I can do to make my place of residence livable? What is the problem? The problem is heatstroke, and how thousands are affected and hundreds die every year. Who does it affect? The people most likely to be affected by indoor heatstroke are children, the elderly, and the poor. How does it affect them? Many housing units that are low income, or affordable housing, come without air conditioning units. The people who rent those units are unable for different reasons, (lack of money, needing to live close to work, nowhere else to go etc�), to just simple move to a unit with air conditioning. Also, even if the first family moves, with there being the dearth of affordable housing in the state of California, eventually someone will move into the unairconditioned unit. That person or family will have no place else to go. Because of the lack of temperature control in their unit these families are at risk of disease, sickness, and eventual death. The most visible affect of the extreme heat is heat stroke. What is my story? I currently pay $750 a month for a two bedroom unit in a fourplex in the city of Riverside Ca. I also pay all of my utilities, with the exception of water. This is my second summer in this unit. I can�t afford to move, I don�t have the money and there is no where in Riverside to go. My neighborhood isn�t the safest in Riverside either. The house next door, which has become over a dozen separate units, has at least two drug dealers. Last week the top story had a fire set by one of the three children, or six adults in that upstairs unit. This burned unit is still be lived in. Even with all these neighborhood problems, this is the best I could get. My house recently changed owners and the new owner has decided she doesn�t like air conditioners and doesn�t want any, not even the portable ones, installed on the property. She told me she feels it ruins the looks of her windows. She is also concerned that the older electrical system in the house could not support a unit. I can�t move, I don�t have the money and there is no where else to go. Last summer I became ill on several occasions from the heat. I don�t look forward to another summer of shortness of breath, headaches and dizziness. But there is nothing I can do, the state of California doesn�t believe that landlords should be required to keep rental units below a certain temperature. I think I know a way to fix this problem. So, what is my proposal? It is a simple one really, it is to place into the California housing code a provision that all rental units in California whose indoor temperature raises above 90 degrees be required to have a swamp cooler, window/wall air conditioner, portable air conditioner, or other equivalent cooling device installed that will keep the temperature at a non hazardous level. In cases where it is considered impossible to equip the unit with a cooling device, such as a home that has been established as a historic residence; or lack of access to electricity (homes that run from generators,) there should be a reduction in the rate that that residential unit can be rented for. I believe that, depending on the square feet of the residence, such a rent reduction could be based on the median price for rental units in that general area. Example: Median price for a two bedroom apartment in downtown Riverside, with street parking and only the water utility paid, is $700. A unit without air conditioning should be priced at 15% below market rate because of the inherent health concerns. The maximum rent that can be charged for the unit is $595. This law would make it more economical for landlords to provide their tenants with safe housing as they would only lose a few hundred dollars to install and maintain units rather then the loss of money every month. Why should the Governor consider this? To put it as the housing code says residents of a rental unit have the right to "quiet enjoyment of the premises." I don't know anyone who enjoys frying an egg on their kitchen floor, and we are certainly not going to be quiet about this anymore! What I want from the office of Governor is just a response to how he feels about people dying in their apartments. What is his response to children who can�t breathe because it is too hot to play outside, and too hot to play inside, too hot to breathe even. What is his response to the slum lords and opportunists who prey on people who are unable, for whatever reason, to move to a unit that does offer the luxury of being able to breathe. My apartment is making me sick and there is no one I can go to for help. The state of California makes sure you can stay healthy at your job, does its care for my health stop at my front door? Symptoms of heatstroke include confusion, delirium, or unconsciousness, and skin that is red, hot, and dry, even under the armpits. Heatstroke is a life-threatening medical emergency. Classic heatstroke can develop without exertion when a person is exposed to a hot environment and the body is unable to cool itself effectively. In this type of heatstroke, the body's ability to sweat and transfer the heat to the environment is reduced. Classic heatstroke may develop over several days. Babies and older adults are most at risk. People with chronic health problems are also at risk. Exertional heatstroke may develop when a person is working or exercising in a hot environment. A person with heatstroke from exertion may sweat profusely, but the body still produces more heat than it can lose. This causes the body's temperature to rise to high levels. Both types of heatstroke cause severe dehydration and can cause body organs to stop functioning. Emergency medical treatment is needed to prevent death.

We approve of Congressional prayer and of swearing truth on God�s word, but stand against the removal of Him and the teachings there in from the public square. 2. Our pledge of allegiance is being challenged because we invoke our historic stance as a God built nation, in its very wording. Please take a strong stand against the word removal �under God� on behalf of those who are citizens who believe strongly in our national fundamentals and the founding of our great nation. Congress needs to pass the following legislation that is currently in the works: H.R. 3799 and S. 2082, the "Constitution Restoration Act of 2004." It is also imperative that new legislation in order to defend the original standing of the U.S. Constitution and protect the right of religious expression, and the free exercise of that religion be put into play immediately. The current travesty of justice whereby a federal judge removed from civic display in Alabama a Ten Commandments monument -- citing the spurious doctrine of "separation," is a direct assault on the Constitution's guarantees of freedom of speech, the free exercise of religion, and freedom from federal interference in matters reserved to the people and the states. We feel helpless, yet we know that we are guaranteed the right to petition government about this plight. This ruling is a blatant direct violation of the First Amendment's explicit prohibition against federal law "respecting an establishment of religion," as it effectually establishes a national religion of atheism, and wrongly enforces federal judicial review of actions reserved to the people and the states. Atheistic principles are not acceptable to any that sign below, and we beseech those that have an ear to let them hear that many citizens of this nation feel extremely strongly about this issue. This federal encroachment also falsely and absurdly equates prohibition of any mention of God with "neutrality" toward religion. Such overt pro-atheistic hostility toward public religious expression is unconstitutional. Therefore, since we know this, we come with our minds open to suggestion of what can be done. The federal judge in Alabama claimed government "draws its powers from the people, and not God." Such atheist revisionism denies the truth of the Declaration of Independence: that it is to secure the unalienable rights endowed by our Creator that government exists. Repeatedly affirmed by the U.S. Supreme Court in recent years, the false doctrines that the First Amendment forbids establishment of religion, and that the Fourteenth Amendment applies this prohibition to the states, Must end now. There is no time to waste, as things are getting more out of hand each day it seems. Congress must put its foot down and put an end to the unconstitutional judicial revisionism and usurpations. Congress has allowed the Judiciary to usurp its authority long enough, and to go unchecked would be the final straw in this travesty. The Framers of our Constitution most recognizably and clearly intended the First and Tenth Amendments to protect our free exercise of religion and other rights of conscience, and secure our liberty from a tyrannical government. It is essential that this kind of judicial arrogance must be halted, and that someone takes the stand to defend the right of religious displays and expression. It is pertinent to save public expression and the rights of free exercise of Christian expression religion in our National creed. It should not be offensive, but yet it has become that way, and we beseech you to mandate that because of lack of constitutionality that this will not continue. It is imperative and must be upheld that the principles guaranteed to us as a nation and the citizens within, in both the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States of America be restored. This must happen so that we have the same rights established by the people for the people. God must be allowed His place as was invoked in the beginning papers and we as citizens have the rights to keep Him there. It is a necessity for the American people to be allowed to publicly acknowledge and to respect the authority of God our Divine Creator. 3. Judges are being challenged to eliminate the 10 commandments from Public Places and Government buildings in states across our nation, and it is apparent that little can seemingly be done. They are responsible for protecting our religion freedom and our rights as citizens of this nation, yet their hands are being forced, and they are limited in their abilities in doing anything about it. It is with a heavy heart that we have watched the news only to hear each day, that yet another part of God and our nations moral fabric is being challenged in our national system or state systems across the nation. 4. God established family. Adam and Eve were created to complement each other. Their union symbolizes the path we as humans are supposed to take. We as a society, from the very beginning have stood for and believed in this definition of family. 1 man + 1 woman = marriage = family which without medical intervention produce offspring, just as God intended. 5. The wording on our currency in the US states, �In God We Trust,� is being challenged in some circles, and it is our fear that this will soon be hit upon heavily as well. From what we gather there is litigation underway to challenge this already. 6. As we all know, through the years there has been much controversy surrounding an issue that we are all familiar with called �Separation of Church and State.� There is no such guarantee in our constitution. There has been a statement by a government official that has been taken out of context on a continual basis. The reality behind this is the actual invocation of these words as though they were also a guarantee, is really beyond comprehension. Our forefathers did say that government could not establish a religion and force us to abide by it, but they also said that we had the right to be involved in religion and the free exercise thereof. For years, we all have heard the Separation of Church and State Issues, yet we all can read for ourselves and can see the mishaps this is continuing to perpetrate against the very protections our nation has said it established for us. We come here and sign together as a group to be recognized as US citizens with the established right to petition the US government about that which we feel affects us, and the nation, as a whole. It is with sincere hope that these citizens have signed this petition. We sincerely hope that these citizens will be heard, and that our government will hear what we will share. These allegations are false. I know, I was stationed overseas, and most of the news reporting on AFN is slanted to the left. There is very little conservative news reporting on AFN, who uses news from CNN, ABC, NBC, and CBS--all liberal networks. Rush Limbaugh aired for only one hour on weekdays. His is the only conservative voice of talk radio on AFN overseas. Censoring Rush will violate the rights of military members who want to hear his program. If anything, we need more Rush--not less. Marijuana has neverand will never kill nobody, alcohol on the other hand takes many lives...iv lost 5 friends in the past 3 years to people drinkin n driving...thats what happens when u drink to much and try to drive....on the other hand i wanna see some one that has gone and smoked so much Marijuana that they are even in the mood to drive...people that are to high cant move...people that are to drunk get stupid....say you and your friends go to a party, people have been drinkin, some words get said...THERES A FIGHT.....ok now letz look at it this way...you and yer friends go to a party and every one there is smoken Marijuana, when yer high ur not gunna fight ...weed putz every one in a good mood and iv NEVER outta all the years that iv been around Marijuana have seen any body get in a fight while smoken weed....Beer n liquor kill millions of people each year... weed had never killed no body....when u get drunk you have a really good chance of drinkin to much and getin alcohol poisoning...u cant get thc poisoning....when yer drunk and u throw up ....if u lay on yer back while throwin up ur gunna drowned yer self in yer own puke....no body i know has every puked off weed...when yer in a pissed off or sad mood alcohol will make it worse....weed usually makes things funnier.. and makes ya hella happier...any wayz thats all i got to say for now... i just think they need to legalize pot ....when yer high yer more carefull with every think when yer drunk yer wreckless...LEGALIZE THE BEAUTIFULL MARY JANE!!!!
