Castlevania's Return To 2D On Home Consoles

Koji Igarashi has been working at Konami for over 10 years. He worked on Twin Bee and Gradius II for the PC Engine, or the TurboGrafx, as it's called in the US. But the first time he got involved with the Castlevania franchise was with Symphony of the Night. He was writing storyboards for the game, and then halfway through development he took over direction for the game as well.

In a recent article Igarashi said that he doesn't want to "put out the light" on a 2D Castlevania for home consoles. We are all very excited about the new 2D Nintendo DS version shown at E3 this year and the [2D] GBA versions have been simply incredible.

In a previous interview Igarashi said "I think the GBA hardware doesn't present a problem, but the limitation comes with the visual presentation. If you want to do something really great, then you'll have to choose a different piece of hardware." What better piece of hardware than a home console?

He has also stated "..with the GBA, you can focus on just the game instead of the technology.." which provides insight as to how the 2D formulas play so well while the 3D seem to have been missing something.

He has stated that there are a lot of financial considerations when making a 2D game, taking into account the fact that 2D games are generally not as successful these days.

He states Eurpoe does not like 2D gaming.

And finally, the main reason this petition exists: If Igarashi were to ever make another 2D Castlevania for home consoles, the fans' voices would need to be strongly heard.

Koji Igarashi, please hear your fans.

I SUPPORT OMG! Street Fighter IV Rocks and it rocks because capcom knew what SF players wanted: The players wanted a Street Fighter game, it's that simple.

If I wouldn't own a PS3, I would buy it only to play this game if it was a "SOTN with HD graphics". And I mean it, LITERARILY. I loved how agile and smooth Alucard was to play in SOTN and how the simple leveling/equipment system worked. No orb collecting soul shit. Stick to the basics konami!

If this game proves to be a 3D animeboobschoolgirlbullsh it failfest with mediocre graphics and a stupid gameplay/character development system then konami is officially using the castlevania franchise the same way as the "Scary Movie"-makers are using theirs, pure business. "Wow our movie proved to be great, now lets do several "scary movies", heck lets even do "epic movies" and forget about quality while we're at it!"

SOTN is hands down one of the best games ever made because of it's core simplicity, great gameplay, stylish/beautiful graphics, great replay value and the list goes on... Actually the greatest thing about the game is that it made me actually play a side-scroller game for as long as i would play a final fantasy game...

The PS2 versions and all other 3d crap that they published is disgraceful and I don't even think of them as castlevania games although it still, sadly, says "castlevania" on the game box... which is nothing else but fail. Only thing that Lament of Ass-essence and Curse of Shitness share in common with SOTN is the character arts. GBA/DS games totally lack the SOTN feeling IMO aswell, bring the dark but beautiful, simple, gothic, action RPG back to life. Please..

Well my point is: Make a 2D castlevania featuring the sword swinging agile Alucard once again and make it right.. oh god make it right.

If I had 10 seconds to say something to the game developers it would be: "Hey fuckballs, with this game you still have
