American Kennel Club Resinding Pet Land Agreement

We, the undersigned, demand that the American Kennel Club rescind any and all agreements with Pet Land Stores as it pertains to the sale of puppies to be registered with the AKC.

We find that the AKC's own insistence of its members to be 'responsible breeders' and to adhere to a 'strict code of conduct' to be in direct conflict with this agreement with Pet Land Stores.

The continued sale of puppies though pet retailers such as Pet Land continues to do harm to the breed by promoting over population, contributing to the strain on the already over burdened rescue programs and fails many times to produce 'well bred' dogs suitable as pets or deserving of registration with the AKC.

Furthermore, we demand that the AKC refrain from entering any other agreements with any pet retailer that does not hold to the highest standard of the breeding and care of dogs as determined by the AKC's own standards.

As responsible and reputable breeders and owners, we try to uphold the standards set by the American Kennel Club. To endorse the sale of puppies at a pet retail store would lower those standards and diminish the goals we have achieved in the betterment of our dogs.

Puppy Mills should be made illegal and the majority of AKC members would not support this action. Do not register any more dogs with the AKC until they have revoked their alliance with the Hunte Corp.

because this action by the AKC seems to be the antithesis of every thing AKC has been about. I wonder if this action won't cause reputable breeders to withdraw their support of the AKC. If they don't have the support of people who believe it is important to uphold breed standards-what will AKC become-the champion of puppy mills? I can't believe AKC is even considering this action.

T IS A HYPOCRITICAL POLICY TO HOLD INDIVIDUAL BREEDERS< OWNERS< AND EXHIBITORS TO HIGH PRINCIPLES BUT SUPPORT A PUPPY MILL LIKE ORGANIZATION THAT DOES NOT DO HEALTH SCREENING OR BUYER SCREENING>AND PRODUCES DOGS AND PUPPPIES FOR THE PROFIT MOTIVE ONLY>

There is NO reason other than greed for AKC to do this. Only AKC can help shut down puppy mills, but here it is...supporting them. Disgraceful.

i've had to contact our local humane society twice re:the animals/dogs that are being kept, how they're being kept and cared for at these pet stores.

The AKC should be working to STOP the sale of puppies in so-called "pet stores," not encouraging such sales. These are just an extension of the puppy mills and are a horror for the poor puppies in their clutches. I sometimes think the worst thing my breed association (CKCS breed) did was to join the AKC.

because we already have too many throw away dogs here in America. We do not need stores such as Petland selling animals. When will AKC do more to educate the public on spay/neuter?

Breed clubs and rescue organizations work tirelessly to educate people about responsible dog purchase and guardianship. The Governor of Pennsylvania is working toward elimination of Pennsylvania puppy mills. This is just another slap-in-the-face by the AKC to those in the trenches. They do NOT care about the welfare of any breed or they wouldn't even entertain the possibility of this ludicrous relationship. The AKC should be absolished entirely.
