		<title>Say No To The Fairness Doctrine</title>
		<link>http://www.petitionspot.com/petitions/FreedomofSpeech/</link>
		<description>This is a petition to stop Congress and the Federal Government from implementing the Fairness Doctrine which is in direct violation of our 1st Amendment rights. The 1st Amendment to the United States Constitution states:

&amp;quot;Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.&amp;quot;

The First Amendment to the United States Constitution is the part of the United States Bill of Rights that expressly prohibits the United States Congress from making laws &amp;quot;respecting an establishment of religion&amp;quot; or that prohibit the free exercise of religion, laws that infringe the freedom of speech, infringe the freedom of the press, limit the right to peaceably assemble, or limit the right to petition the government for a redress of grievances.[1]

The Fairness Doctrine is in direct violation of the right to freedom of speech and freedom of press.

In August 1987, the FCC abolished the doctrine by a 4-0 vote, in the Syracuse Peace Council decision, which was upheld by the Appeals Court for the D.C. Circuit in February 1989.[9] The FCC stated, &amp;quot;the intrusion by government into the content of programming occasioned by the enforcement of [the Fairness Doctrine] restricts the journalistic freedom of broadcasters ... [and] actually inhibits the presentation of controversial issues of public importance to the detriment of the public and the degradation of the editorial prerogative of broadcast journalists,&amp;quot; and suggested that, due to the many media voices in the marketplace, the doctrine be deemed unconstitutional.[2]

We The People must speak out against the Fairness Doctrine in order to stop the deliberate intrusion of the government to silence venues like conservative talk radio and opposition to government majority. We are signing this petition to preserve those rights that our founding fathers intended. It is up to us to keep the people of America in power and to limit government intrusion. This is the first step.
