http://www.petitionspot.com/petitions/Indus/ River Indus is no doubt one of the world's largest rivers. It serves to a wide range of Ecosystems, agriculture and human populations. It flows right through the length of Pakistan and passes through 3 provinces. Due to huge consumption of most of water in the upper province Punjab by building several barrages and dams, the water has become scarce in the lower Province of Sindh. As a result the river is totally dry between Thatta and Sujawal and further till the delta. I m an eye witness to it. This has caused sea water intrusion in the delta and has destroyed several thousand hectors of fertile land. moreover the Mangrove Ecosystem which was once considered as a very large forest, is now deteriorating at a high rate. This has not only caused a decline in fish population in the sea but also is a threat to other wildlife of the ecosystem. Blind Indus Dolphin, which is endemic specie, is critically endangered and is at the verge of extinction due to shortage of water. There has not been any flood in Sindh since the last 8 or 9 years, resulting in the deterioration of the riverine forest between the Leeves (Katcha area). I strongly appeal to the Government of Pakistan and Government of Punjab to realize the seriousness of the matter and release a substantial amount of water in the river Indus so that to preserve these assets of international importance for our future generations. I also appeal to not to start the construction of the Kalabagh Dam as it would only worsen the situation and would mean death for all the above mentioned, affected people and biodiversity.
