Fanfiction.net to ease up

Fanfiction.net is getting way to hard, and people are starting to post else where. Please sign this so Fanfiction.net will ease up on grammar and interactive storys. They took off you/fics then CYOA (Choose your own adventure) Now interactive stories? What next? Not all people are good at grammar. And the word pads don't get it all. So sign this to have FF.net ease up on Grammar. They are way to tough. And beta readers don't always catch it either. We are human. Please sign! Thank you!

Grammar's something you can improve so don't come complaining about how you suck and how they should be reasonable. I've met people who learnt English in three years and have just as good a grasp of grammar as anybody I know. There's proof that good grammar can be achieved, so go and work towards it. Writing isn't the only time you're going to use it, for God's sake. How do you expect people to understand you (say in a business situation) when you say things like "I seen" etc.? And for the person who wrote this petition - did you check it? I think I spot a few errors already. If you write like that, it's no wonder you want them to ease up, because I strongly suspect that what you write might not be worth reading anyhow.

Hey, seriously, Alexa - I can see that your grammar is horrible. Have you heard of full stops? You know, you're a good example for the fics out there that can't be understood. I mean, yeah, what you wrote was a huge mess, and there are a lot of things that a third-grader could have caught. If that's your normal standard then I can fully understand why you want FF.net to loosen up. However, I would like to point out that fics written with that standard are hard to read. And when something is hard to read, the entertainment value is gone. Also I would like to point out that you do have the basic right to write what you like, but getting your writings published is a privilege that you shouldn't take lightly. Be glad you even have it, and don't complain. With all that taken into account, I do agree somewhat that CYOAs should be allowed - if written in good, or at least reasonable English. Isn't being understood the whole point of writing?

seriously! i totally suck at grammer and it's one thing that sort of frightens me that my fic will get deletated just because i don't have all the correct grammer i mean i do try but still! i mean i can understand if it's a huge mess and theres's many things that even a thrid grader could have caught but it is getting out of hand! please loosen up on the grammer!

Ae amd Stell, you're just being stubborn. Relax a bit; not everyone scored full marks on last term's grammar quiz. I personally think that CYOAs should be allowed (they're fun, after all) but maybe they should keep their regulations on grammar and authors' notes or relax them just a little. After all, most of us don't want to be wading through loads of irrelevent stuff or trying to understand people who don't seem to know how to type. But the very idea of making Fanfiction.net like animespiral or allowing people to do original works there is risible. It's called *Fan*fiction.net for a reason. By the way, you can't really ever learn enough about anything, you know. So I agree with Ae - only in that "at least they're teaching you something" part. Live to learn! And read "I Found Your Diary" by Fiver. It's a great humor story, and proof that stuff with good entertainment value can be written in reasonable English, and story format at that.

I totally agree with Aerin. Personally, I feel that a story with bad grammar is pretty much comparable to a "relaxing" vocal concert generously sprinkled with screechy high notes. Put some work into writing, for heavens's sake. I know it's online, but that's all the more reason for you to put in effort because everyone will be reading it, not just your friends. About good literature: well, look at some of the published writers out there? Can you write like that? Will you ever be able to write like that? Do you want to be able to write like that? If you're not good enough, polish up. Life is one step after another. So's writing. There's no shortcut and no result without effort.

I can understand their standards. Firstly, if you hope to be taken seriously, you probably have to take your audience seriously as well. That means spellchecking, correcting your grammar to the best of your ability and not bothering them with language that shouldn't be existent in what one might later hope to call a good piece of literature. I understand there is some entertainment value in writing and reading what others write, but I would think that people would put some effort into their own work. After all, it is you that people are going to judge by it, correct? My view: Take a little pride in your work and maybe you won't find the regulations bothersome at all. I certainly haven't. In fact I thank them, because they have made my life considerably easier, i.e. I don't have to spend hours sifting through stories that are impossible to understand (that is, stories with 'you' and the chat format). It could just be me, but I appreciate the English language far too much to allow the cold-blooded butchering of it to continue. By the way, if you really have a problem with the regulations, why don't you just contact the administrator or something, instead of putting up a petition here? I doubt they have the time to search the Net and find out what some people think about their regulations. Oh, and if you want to post an original story, go to FictionPress. I just visited AnimeSpiral the other day and, guess what? The stories on Fanfiction.net are of (as a whole) better quality. If you need someone to push you in order to take pride in your work, don't complain. At least the regulations are forcing you to correct your bad writing habits and that way you get somewhere.

You're stubborn, Kai. It's understandable that they don't allow script format, but disallowing any form of interactive stories, is just retarded. They should be allowed, as they're very fun to read and write.

I agree. Sites like these are for fanfictions, no matter how well made they are. Everyone makes mistakes, and in the fanfictions I read they are usually small things that you don't even notice. When I am reading them at least, I could care less about how good of grammar the author has. Just as long as I can understand the story itself.
