I suggest a new way to democratize the food movement by paying all school systems, pre-k through college, to increase the amount of local or regional fresh food- improving the health of students and the local economy. Ultimately, this can be done by spending roughly only one dollar per day per student. I strongly urge the extension of organic foods to the WIC program, and increased funding to the National Organic Cost Share Program. I ask congress to Mitigate USDA reform, urging no-till farming, crop rotation, and natural fertilization methods, which would eliminate run-off and soil depletion. These efforts will render our delicate water and ecosystem trophic levels safe. It is time for our government to take an appropriate ethical and responsible stance on food quality and safety.
