This is a point very close to me and i want to get this acomplished. Would you want to be poked and prodded with a needle, cutting out your eyes just to see if you have the same reactions. Vivisection is the practice of experimenting on live animals. Over 25 million animals in the U.S. suffer and are killed each year in laboratories for product and cosmetic testing, in education, and in biomedical experimentation. Often these tests do not even purport to be linked to human health. While children should be learning respect for life and the natural world around them, classroom dissection and other mutilation exercises send the opposite message to young, impressionable minds: that life is cheap, expendable and unimportant. I agree that animal testing should be prohibited for food, cosmetic, and educational purposes. I do not think that there is anything that you can learn from an actual dissection that you cant learn from a model. That said I believe that for biomedical and disease research, animal testing is an acceptable practice. Ending all animal testing is impractical at best, but I believe that if we end frivolous tests and improve the standards that are enforced for testing facilities it would be a great leap forward.
