I Support the Living Wage and Oppose Any Postponem...

I support the Living Wage and oppose any postponement of the scheduled January 1, 2006 increase to $9.50 per hour.

The living wage is working. During the year the Living Wage has been in effect, employment in Santa Fe is up 2.3% (up 3.2% in the hospitality industry) and unemployment and poverty are down (Temporary Aid to Needy Families is down nearly 10%). All these numbers are better than those for New Mexico as a whole. A Living Wage is good for business, fostering loyalty, quality of work, and stability due to decreased turnover. Most importantly, thousands of workers have been enjoying a better quality of life. The living wage is just and fair. It reduces poverty and provides dignity and respect to workers who often have the most difficult jobs.

Please offer any comments you have or if you or a family member earns less than $9.50 per hour.
