Instead of Link getting the medallions, He was givven a mission by Zelda to go into a secret chamber. There he would obtain the triforce, but the impossible happened. Link has droped the triforce, and broke it into peices. There a dark portal opened, and the shards were sucked into Ganons realm. Link must go in with the shards and Defeat Ganondorf. The thing is Gaonon doesent leave like that easily. He sets a bomb that will take the lives of Link and Ganon, and the realm itself. Sighn the petition to see more of the conclusion of Ganons reighn, including the dark realm.
