http://www.petitionspot.com/petitions/allforthem/ Sharks are beautiful, majestic, and interesting creatures that have been on this earth for over 2 million years. They help keep our biological balance in place and provide great information for marine studies. So why are they in danger if we need them so much? That’s what we are trying to find out. These amazing creatures are being hunted for their fins, which are cut off, dried, and then shipped to restaurants to become the key ingredient in, Shark Fin Soup. This soup is usually bought for weddings; the soup is eaten, and followed by the slaughter of a shark. The cost is about 100 US dollars a bowl, and can range from Great White to Hammerhead sharks. IS THIS RIGHT?! No it is not. Sharks have done nothing to human beings. Yes, there are a few cases of mistaken identity when a shark mistakes a human for food, but once the animal sees you are not what it thought you were, it usually lets go. It is wrong on our part for using the ocean as a swimming pool when its not, the ocean is not a playground, or swimming pool. It is a marine environment, a home for wildlife. The ocean provides us with life; why would we want to destroy it, and all of its inhabitants. It would be better off if we just left it alone. --Think about how we would feel if a random stranger came into our house, touched everything, on top of destroying things that help keep you safe and comfortable.-- Not only would we be upset, but we would feel somewhat violated. These sharks need us. The entire species of shark are being killed faster than they can reproduce, and we all know what situations like this lead to, EXTINCTION! We are just too blind and self-centered to see it. Humans think that sharks don’t contribute to anything but attacks, and soup. But if you knew how life without sharks would be, you would defiantly think twice. There are already many endangered species of shark. One not known to many ,Lamna nasus, a species of shark known as Porbeagle shark was recently assessed by the Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada (COSEWIC) as "Endangered" and is currently being considered for legal listing on Schedule 1 of the Species At Risk Act (SARA). Once listed, porbeagle shark will be protected under SARA. This protection includes, but is not limited to, the proviso that no one "shall kill, harm, harass, capture, or take" any of these individuals. The Great White Shark, Carcharodon carcharias, is imperil of extinction. These sharks are being hunted more so than other species, all for trophies. Yes, we may be terrified of sharks because they have been portrayed as these horrific man eaters, by movies like JAWS, and Deep Blue Sea. They aren’t monsters; they are simply predators of the deep that will attack if tempted, just like any animal. Sharks have so much to teach us about how they live and their environment. It would be a shame to let these creatures just die off because of a soup that is way overpriced anyways. Just know that these sharks need us, not for food, but they need us to save them. This is a major case irony because we are the main factor contributing to their demise. -The point is they CANNOT fight back, and if they can’t fight for themselves then hopefully there are people out there that will help me fight for them. Sharks, unlike other kinds of fish, do not reproduce quickly, and also grow slowly. Many species don\'t mature until they are about 30 years old!
