http://www.petitionspot.com/petitions/aumanbus/ Last school year, Ron Farrand, Director of the Carmel-Clay Department of Transportation, was contacted numerous times over a span of three to four months about a bus who, each afternoon, well-exceed the posted speed limit of 25 mph. Only into the third day of school, there is now another bus (Bus 38) who exceeds the posted speed limit around 7:05 each morning while picking up the children in our neighborhood. This petition is for the sole purpose of stressing the importance of the speed limit, especially by our school bus drivers, for the safety of us, our neighbors, and most importantly, our children who ride these buses. According to Indiana State Laws, "A person who while operating a school bus knowingly or intentionally exceeds a speed limit set forth in section 14 of this chapter commits a Class C misdemeanor." Please help this cause so we can ensure the safety of our children and other residents in our neighborhood is deemed a top priority by the Carmel Transportation System and its bus drivers. IC 9-21-5-12 Maximum speeds greater or less than what is reasonably safe; declaration of new limit; variable limits based on time of day, types of vehicles, weather, and other factors Sec. 12. (a) Whenever the Indiana department of transportation determines on the basis of an engineering and traffic investigation that a maximum speed set forth in this chapter is greater or less than is reasonable or safe under the conditions found to exist at an intersection or other place or on part of the state highway system, the Indiana department of transportation may determine and declare a reasonable and safe maximum limit at the intersection or on the part of the state highway system. The differing limit is effective when appropriate signs giving notice of the limit are erected. (b) A maximum speed limit under this section may be declared to be effective at all times or at times indicated on the signs. Differing limits may be established for different times of day, different types of vehicles, varying weather conditions, and other factors bearing on safe speeds. (a) Except as provided in subsections (b) and (c), a person who violates this chapter commits a Class C infraction. (b) A person who exceeds a speed limit that is: (1) established under section 6 of this chapter and imposed only in the immediate vicinity of a school when children are present; or (2) established under section 11 of this chapter and imposed only in the immediate vicinity of a worksite when workers are present; commits a Class B infraction.
