Look at the anime Kemonozume, Mononoke, Seirei no Moribito, Paradise Kiss, and Honey and Clover and think about it. *Avatar:The Last Airbender does copy cliche anime character style, but it is an American cartoon, not an anime. It also lacks the Japanese-ness that makes anime anime. The way the story is told isn't Japanese. The way the scenes are done does not seem very anime-like. Air is considered to be an element according to Western thought, but not Eastern. A Chinese-inspired world would use proper kanji, more Chinese-sounding country titles, and there wouldn't be an air country. The clothing, architecture, scenery, and monsters/animals would be more familiar and influenced by Chinese (and maybe Japanese) folklore. It is clear that the people behind it did not do their homework. If you want an anime with a Chinese-like fantasy world, look at Juuni Kokuki, Seirei no Moribito, or Fushigi Yuugi. *So Avatar: The Last Airbender is not an anime.
