ABOUT THE FILM SERIES The BMA's Free First Thursdays Film Series, which ran from 2006 to late 2008, was dedicated to showcasing a mixture of truly adventurous films previously unscreened or underscreened in Baltimore, focusing particularly on the visionary film explosion of the 1960s and '70s and the most exciting voices from today's international film-festival scene. An emphasis was placed on films unavailable or hard-to-find on home video. All screenings were be free, and took place on the first Thursday of the month, screened from film prints (rather than digital-video projection). ACT NOW! Despite fantastic films and great turnouts (averaging 150 people per screening), the film series was canceled in September 2008, proving a shocking blow to fans and patrons of the arts in Baltimore. With your help, we can show the BMA how many people this effected, and how many people would continue to support the BMA and the Free Film series if revived.
