Recognition of National Childhood Stroke Awareness... http://www.petitionspot.com/petitions/childhoodstroke/ Pediatric stroke drastically impacts the lives of six in 100,000 children. Stroke is one of the top ten causes of death in children and is responsible for further neurological problems later in life for many survivors. Early detection and response is key to recovery from a pediatric stroke. Awareness saves lives. Unfortunately, many people do not know the warning signs of stroke and even more do not recognize that children can suffer a stroke. This lack of awareness undoubtedly places the lives of more children at risk. For many years, the Pediatric Stroke Network has sponsored National Childhood Stroke Awareness Day in a valiant attempt to educate the public about pediatric stroke. Congress has never officially recognized this important day and we petition the Congress to pass a concurrent resolution recognizing the goals and aims of National Childhood Stroke Awareness Day, scheduled for May 6, 2006.
