Fighting the cuts in Camden - sign the petition

"We are opposed to the plans by the Liberal Democrat/Conservative administration for big cuts in jobs and services of up to £23 million per year in Camden Council funding for the next financial year. These cuts will involve major reductions in frontline services including social care, adult day centres, homes for elerdly people, play centres and projects, sports, the Youth service, Special Educational Needs, hostels, Careline, Welfare Rights, the Camden Language Service, street cleaning, the Boulevard Project and neighbourhood projects. The current plans will cut 350 jobs, reduce funding to the voluntary sector in real terms and lead to big increases in charges for services, such as a 20% increase in the charge for meals on wheels.

We believe that there is no need for these cuts: the Council has a healthy level of reserves and is receiving the highest percentage increase in central government funding for any London Borough (6.2%). Furthermore, it is clear that cuts will affect services to the poorest and most vulnerable sections of the Camden community.

We call on the Liberal Democrat/Conservative administration to withdraw all proposals for cuts in jobs and services, direct or indirect, or increases in charges which are to the detriment of Camden people."

I think the new administration need to thoroughly think about the cuts as it will affect the service provided by Camden. In simple terms, less staff means less services. There is no such thing as cheaper and better.
I am a rsident of the borough, I pay full rent and Council Tax and I am willing to pay a few pounds extra for my Council Tax if it will mean better service.
