Thank you to all who have taken the time to read and sign this petition. Know that this petition has impacted the way competitions look at fees toward the dancers and the communication will continue within the dance community in order to address this concern.

Our voices have been heard and a dialog has begun. This petition has shown the competitions that the dancers have a voice and cannot be ignored. It will be vital that you, THE DANCERS, THE LEADERS OF TEAMS, & PROMOTERS, continue to take the initiative to talk & work together in order for the competitions to benefit our community as a whole.

Like I've said in the past this petition's #1 goal was to raise awareness in order to take the first steps in addressing the dancers' concern of rising competition fees. I'm happy to see you have chosen to do what is RIGHT, rather then just doing what is easy. Know that within three weeks over 750 of you have added your voice in the development of future competitions and in the end, the future of OUR community.

THANK YOU.

I support this petition. The creators of Vibe, LTD, make tens of thousands on their annual fundraiser, Vibe. To say they need to increase fees to cover costs, is a lie.

Consider the following:

Q: Why should we pay to dance? Why are we paying more than the audience?

A: You aren't paying only to dance. You are also paying for the venue and related support costs. You are also gaining the benefit of being seen by thousands of people, the ability to network backstage, and the chance to compete for the prize. Besides, how many times have you paid to go to a club -- to dance? The audience is paying to only sit and watch.

---

Q: Why charge the dancers at all? Why not rely solely on audience revenue?

A: First consider -- why should dancers even pay dues to their own company? Why not rely solely on revenue from doing shows? The answer is straightforward -- in many cases, the revenue simply isn't enough. Dance companies rarely break even, so they have to rely on dues. Big shows do make profit, but not as much as you'd think -- then it becomes a question of, how much do you think the promoter deserves for their work? How much should the promoter go into debt, and how many months of work should s/he spent, "just for the love"?

---

Q: Why should we let promoters make money off our talents?

A: Promoters don't make money directly of other people's talent -- you could say they are simply selling a commodity, which happens to be dance. They are not taking credit for your talent and skill. Kind of like a talent agent, or a real estate agent -- they earn their money through networking, organization, advertisement, marketing, etc.
Here's another example -- consider big business conventions (Gaming Expos, Clothing Shows, whatever). Vendors (exhibitors, performers) must pay for their booths. What they gain is an advantage in marketing and networking. Dance companies competing at big shows like Vibe and Bustagroove gain in similar ways. And don't forget that at most BBOY competitions, the competitors still pay to get in. Sometimes they pay even more
