		<title>Free the bears</title>
		<link>http://www.petitionspot.com/petitions/freethebears/</link>
<description>I created this petition because I am disgusted at the atrocities inflicted upon bears. It is up to us to stop these horrendous acts, such as bear dancing bear farming and bear baiting.

JUST FIVE SECONDS OF YOUR TIME WILL FREE A BEAR FROM PAIN!!!

The following info if horrific but must be done to raise awareness

Free the Bears Fund continues to campaign against the continuation of the dancing bear trade and refutes the argument that this is a cultural tradition that should be respected and allowed to continue. Dancing bears are seen frequently at major tourist centres in India, particularly Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. The Fund realises that this so-called &lsquo;tradition&rsquo; is supported primarily by tourists, who delight in seeing these bears perform. The Fund therefore urges travellers to become aware of the torturous process involved in training these bears: the painful piercing of the sensitive snout in order to thread ropes and chain through the perforation, the removal of teeth without an anaesthetic, and the placement of tender paws on hot plates in order to train the bear to &ldquo;dance&rdquo;. As a result of such treatment these bears, which are capable of living up to 25 years in the wild, rarely live to be 10 once captured, succumbing to infection, malnutrition and stress. When travelling in these countries we urge you to consider what entertainment you support and the hidden suffering that must be endured to provide it. From http://www.freethebears.org.au/?d=bears&amp;p=sloth

There are currently 167 bear farms across China housing an estimated 9000 bears, with a further 4000 in Vietnam and 2000 in South Korea. The bile drained from these bears is part of an estimated $100 million annual global black market trade in bear galls and bile products, despite the trade being illegal under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES). &ldquo; The bears are locked in cramped, dirty cages, so tiny they barely have enough room to move,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo; The extraction methods may be different but the suffering is the same. Under-nourished and over-stressed, they rock back and forth thrashing against the bars, often injuring themselves out of fear and desperation.&rdquo; From http://www.wspa.org.au/campaigns.asp?campaignType=3

Bear baiting is possibly the world&lsquo;s most savage blood sport. Teeth and claws removed, bears are tied to a post and set-upon by pit bull terriers. Usually held at local fairs in Pakistan, this cruel practice pits dogs against bears that have had their claws and teeth removed. The extraction of teeth and claws is a cruel and agonising practice.
Before the fight, the bears are tied to a post which renders them defenceless to the dogs&lsquo;frenzied attack. Bears sustain more injuries than dogs and usually suffer ripped noses and mouths.
Most bears are permanently scarred, but the killing of either animal is avoided, as they are too valuable. From http://www.wspa-international.org/campaigns.asp?campaignType=5

<description>I suppose an animals suffering is ok in countries where their human population has little value when in a lower socio economic situation. Its that lower socio economic person that has the excuse that they need to survive in any way they can, even if it is at the expense and horrific suffering of another creatures life. It will be a long time and not in our life that we will see the change of attitude, but neverthe less we should keep chipping away at the rock and promote the education of guiltless leaders of impoverished countries - after all they still live in their gold palaces! </description>
