http://www.petitionspot.com/petitions/nightowlpda/ The Professional Drivers Association has read a report in Commercial Motor stating that Night Owl Truck Stop, Alconbury has been sold and there are plans afoot to use this land for warehousing. It also states that permissions ( B1, B2 and B8) exist that would allow this land to be used for offices, industrial processes and storage and distribution purposes. The Professional Drivers Association protest officially, and most strongly, that this should not be allowed. There is already a dreadful shortage of SECURE overnight parking for HGV drivers in Cambridgeshire, and indeed throughout the country. The A14 in this area has always been a crime hotspot, and there have been two recent hijackings of Lorries and their drivers in the last month alone. How can it be considered to CLOSE A SECURE LORRY PARK, which safely houses 240 Lorries per night and replace it with warehousing that will attract even more Lorries, looking for secure parking and overnight facilities? Where will they all go? We would ask you all to sign this petition in support of keeping Night Owl Alconbury as a secure lorry park, and NOT turning it into warehousing. This Petition will run for a month and signatures may be added online at www.pda-uk.org , in addition, signatures will be collected at Truckfest Peterborough on May 6th & 7th. It will be presented to Huntingdon District Council, and a number of other local interested parties together with a request NOT to allow any change of use of this land. We will be seeking support for this campaign from the Highways Agency, The Cambridgeshire Police Force, Truckpol, Eurowatch, VOSA, Cambridgeshire Freight Quality Partnership, The Road Haulage Association, The Transport Association and and The Freight Transport Association We cannot, must not, and in fact will not allow this secure lorry park to close without a fight.
