Bring back CYOA and Insert-You fanfiction!

As you know, mm.org and ff.net have banned CYOAs and Insert You fics. Can you tell me why? No, probably not. The point is, they took them down with no good reason, causing fans and writers of these fics to get seriously pissed off.

Why exactly should the sites bring these back? Mainly because we enjoy them. We like to write them, read them, and such. It's like a door into another world where you get to be part of it. They're addictive, and a lot of them used to be very well written. That is, until they began to be banned.

First, it was ff.net that took them down. At first it was only CYOAs. CYOA stands for 'Choose Your Own Adventure,' and that's exactly what the original CYOAs let you do. They were fun, but since ff.net took them down, authors flocked to mm.org, or began to write Insert-You fics. Insert-You fics are similar to CYOAs, only you don't have a particular path to choose from and the chapters are in order. But soon, ff.net took those down too.

We had no other choice if we wanted CYOAs and Insert-You fics. We had to go to mm.org and various less popular sites to read what we wanted to. It was fun while it lasted, but then mm.org started to take them down too. And even the smaller, less popular sites did it as well. Where did we have to go? We'd have to spend a while searching Google to find a site that allowed them, and even when we found one, usually the fics weren't very well written, or we couldn't find what we were looking for. Some authors turned to Quizilla.

I've seen various Insert-You quizzes on Quizilla. But still, most of them have horrible grammar mistakes and predictable plots. Not only that, but they don't have any CYOAs on there (not that I have seen, anyway), despite the fact that I have figured out a way to do it.

Now, some people may argue that mm.org does allow Insert-You fanfiction, but it's on the forums. I am completely aware of this, and I am not in support of the forum that holds them. Why? Because I have visited that forum numerous times, and find it annoying. The layout of forums are not exactly suitable for fanfiction. There are comments popping up between chapters, avatars are everywhere (some are animated, and they're distracting), and there's also the fact that they can't write CYOAs on the forums. It's just Insert-You fics. But what's more annoying?

The fact that even though they 'brought them back' it's compacted in a small part of the forum section. CYOAs and Reader-Inserts are still fanfiction, just in a different form. It's still telling a story, only you get to be a part of it. What's so wrong with that? It's entertaining, and it brought these websites a lot of hits. Why did they take them down? They'll come up with a million bad excuses for why they did, including saying that it isn't real fanfiction. We - the readers and writers - know that this isn't true. It IS real fanfiction. We know the definition of fan and the definition of fiction. CYOA and Insert-You fics fit what fanfiction was originally intended to be. Isn't that all that there should be to it? Why do they feel the need to add more to the definition?

I know that there are a lot of these petitions out there and that none of them have worked yet, but I'm hoping that this will be the one to finally convince these websites to bring CYOAs back.

I support this petition big time. I am pissed off that ff.net and mm.org had the nerve to remove alot of stories i had up there just because they were reader inserts. Reader inserts are stories and i dont see why they should be taken down

I personally loved CYOA and self insertions, and then suddenly they were removed from all my favorite fanfiction sites. Notice how these sites aren't as popular anymore?
