		<title>Give Ricks Students Back their Freedom!</title>
		<link>http://www.petitionspot.com/petitions/rickspetition/</link>
		<description>This petition stands to free students at the Ricks Center from the technological tyranny that has enslaved the masses. Students are given school computers with rules so strict that they cannot go back to school the next day without having their web histories checked. The only reason this policy was created in the first place was to prohibit the access of games at school.

Here&#039;s a reality check, Ricks.

1. YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO KNOW WHAT STUDENTS HAVE BEEN DOING WITH THEIR COMPUTERS WHILE AT HOME. THAT IS AT THEIR PARENTS&#039; DISCRETION. IT IS NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS. SURE, IT IS UNIVERSITY OF DENVER TECHNOLOGY, AND STUDENTS IN GRAVE VIOLATION OF UNIVERSITY AND/OR RICKS GUIDELINES SO THAT IT THREATENS THE NETWORK WILL FACE APPROPRIATE CONSEQUENCES. THAT&#039;S FINE BY US. BUT, YOU HAVE TO ASK THE QUESTION: DO GAMES REALLY FALL IN THE CATEGORY OF &#039;THREATENING?&#039;

2. SOME STUDENTS DO NOT HAVE THE LUXURY OF A DESKTOP COMPUTER AT HOME. IF THEY HAVE NO HOMEWORK AND WANT TO PLAY COMPUTER GAMES, YOU ARE DISALLOWING THEM FROM USING THEIR FREE TIME FOR THEMSELVES.

3. CHECKING EACH COMPUTER&#039;S WEB HISTORY IS PERSONAL SPYING. ARE YOU FOR CIVIL FREEDOM OR AGAINST IT?

4. IF YOU WANT TO BLOCK GAMES, JUST IMPROVE FILTERING. WE UNDERSTAND THAT YOU DON&#039;T WANT STUDENTS PLAYING GAMES DURING CLASS TIME, SO WHY NOT TAKE THE DIRECT ROUTE INSTEAD OF A WAY THAT LIMITS ENJOYMENT OF THE VERY RESOURCES YOU ARE GIVING YOUR STUDENTS.</description>
