At present, the model being used is intensive luxury housing instead of public recreation and open space. In many places, publicly owned land is being sold to private developers, forclosing the possibility of increased public access and the local economic benefits that would accrue from increased tourism. We demand that no public waterfront land be sold for private use and that there be a moratorium on all proposals for private housing along the waterfront.
