SAVE THEATER AND RADIO IN THE TAT PROGRAM!

Tat is the Teledramatic Art and Technology major at California State University Monterey Bay. In Tat's own website it states that, "teledramatics is the innovative study and practice of transmedia—or cross-media—storytelling that has emerged from the disciplines of theater, radio, film, television, and new media." Yet in an effort to reduce budget cuts Tat has cut virtually all theater and radio classes from its curriculum. It has caused an up roar with in the tat majors. "We're getting the feeling we don't matter,” says Robert Gomez in the December issue of Otter Realm,” We aren't going to accept change with out our say." Tat students recognize the importance of theater and radio with in Tat's interdisciplinary program. Radio and theater are core concepts in story telling and without them the students not only loose out on their ability and variety in telling a story but also on the education they receive from this interdisciplinary major. In another article from the April issue of the Otter Realm an anonymous student wrote, "Current students have repeatedly spoken out in support of the value of learning to produce compelling material across a range of mediums. Theater is at the heart of that vision of Tat, providing students access to the core values and skills of our story telling culture. Radio is a venue to learn valuable production skills in a positive, distribution oriented market. Both avenues of study within Tat have consistently had full classes and successful outcomes, and are often the introduction needed to draw fringe students into the greater Tat program." Theater and Radio are important concepts within the Tat major without them we fail our mission statement, the students, and our university. WE, the students, need to stand up and demand the education that we came for and the education that provides for US, not what the Dean and the Heads of Tat think we want. Please sign the petition below and let your voice be heard! Don’t let the original Tat program die without a fight!

TAT is such a unique gem in the CSU system, it is the reason why I moved to the Monterey Peninsula. I wouldn't of went to CSUMB if it was just another film major. I liked the variety and

TAT's foundations were built on an interdisciplinary approach to media and theater. This is what seperates it from similar majors from other universities. Without radio and theater TAT just wouldn't be the same.

I do not know how you can take away from programs that students want and have learned from, later to get jobs in these fields.

You cannot change TAT, at least not for those who signed up to do specific things with it. If someone has signed up to graduate with an emphasis in theater or radio, let 'em do it!

I think this is a great program and it is a way for us to speak out to the community. Besides there is not enough programs as is and now they want to take away the only program that actually has people involved!
