Ken Caminiti, who in 1996 won National League Most Valuable Player was quoted as saying,"It's no secret what's going on in baseball. At least half the guys are using [steroids]. They talk about it. They joke about it with each other...." During 2005, players were subpoenaed for Grand Jury and House Government Reform Committees to testify and discuss the use of steroids in Major League Baseball. Through this process, one thing became clear, the Superstars of baseball would not disclose anything that might harm their already fragile reputations and egos. Unfortunately, among those who have suffered, is the legacy of Roger Maris and his single season home run record of 61, which was shattered first by Mark McGuire in 1998 with 70 home runs, and later in 2001 by Barry Bonds with 73.
